A325 vs. A490	A325 has a minimum tensile strength of 105-120 ksi. A490 is a higher-strength option used when connection design calls for greater load capacity in a smaller bolt size. If your engineer's spec calls for A490, don't substitute A325; the two are not interchangeable despite similar dimensions.
Heavy hex bolts vs. tension control (TC) bolts	Heavy hex bolts install with a standard wrench or impact tool and are tightened by torque or turn-of-nut method. Tension control bolts have a splined end that shears off once proper tension is reached, speeding up installation on jobs with high bolt counts. Choose heavy hex for general structural work; choose TC bolts when installation speed and tension verification are priorities.
